Google Rolls Out Gemini App for Mac: Summarise Files, Create Content, and Access AI Instantly

Native desktop app brings advanced AI tools to macOS with quick shortcut access and powerful creation features

Google has officially launched a dedicated version of its AI assistant, Gemini, for Apple’s Mac computers, marking a major step in expanding its AI ecosystem to desktop users.

Previously accessible only through a web browser on macOS, Gemini is now available as a native application, allowing users to interact with the AI more seamlessly.

The new app enables users to share files and even their screens directly with Gemini, making it easier to generate summaries, extract insights, and create detailed reports without leaving their workflow.

In addition to document handling, the AI assistant can perform a wide range of tasks such as writing content, conducting research, generating images, and even producing videos and music.

Users can also quickly launch Gemini using a keyboard shortcut, eliminating the need to switch between apps or browser tabs.

The app integrates Google’s advanced AI models, including Nano Banana for image generation and editing, and Veo for video creation. Veo is capable of producing high-resolution videos based on text or visual prompts, offering powerful creative possibilities.

The Gemini app is now available globally for Macs running macOS 15 and later versions. Google has indicated that additional features and improvements will be rolled out in future updates.

With this move, Google joins other major AI players that have already introduced native Mac applications. OpenAI released its desktop app earlier, while Anthropic launched its own solution for macOS as well.

The introduction of a dedicated Gemini app signals Google’s push to make AI tools more integrated into everyday computing, particularly for users seeking faster and more efficient workflows.
