Amit Shah to Inaugurate NAFCUB’s International Conference “Co-op Kumbh 2025” on Digital Cooperative Finance

Themed “Digitalising Dreams – Empowering Communities,” the event will unite 1,500 Urban Cooperative Banks and 60,000 Credit Societies to chart a roadmap for a digitally empowered cooperative sector.

New Delhi, November 6, 2025: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the International Conference on Urban Cooperative Credit Sector – “Co-op Kumbh 2025”, being hosted by the National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks and Credit Societies (NAFCUB) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on November 10–11, 2025.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Constitution Club of India in the national capital. The two-day global event, organised with the support of the Ministry of Cooperation, carries the theme “Digitalising Dreams – Empowering Communities”, symbolising a major step forward in India’s journey towards a digitally enabled cooperative ecosystem.

NAFCUB, the apex organisation representing over 1,500 Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) and nearly 60,000 Credit Societies across the country, aims through this conference to unite policymakers, regulators, cooperative leaders, technology experts, and international partners on one platform. The objective is to chart a roadmap for digital inclusion and innovation within the cooperative credit sector, in line with the Government of India’s “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision.

Addressing the media, Laxmi Dass, President of NAFCUB, described Co-op Kumbh 2025 as more than just a conference, calling it “a collective movement to reimagine cooperative finance in the digital era.” He said the event would promote dialogue, innovation, and shared vision to strengthen the cooperative foundation of financial inclusion in India.

The conference will see deliberations on policy reforms, governance, professionalism, technology adoption, and international collaboration to modernise the functioning of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies. One of the key outcomes will be the adoption of the “Delhi Declaration 2025 – Roadmap to 2030,” a forward-looking policy document that will outline strategies for governance reform, capital adequacy, risk management, and digital transformation of cooperative institutions.

The valedictory session will be presided over by Suresh Prabhu, Chairman of the National Cooperation Policy Committee, former Chairman of Saraswat Cooperative Bank, and former Union Cabinet Minister. The conference will also witness participation from prominent international organisations, including the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), Green Stone Farm Credit Services (USA), and several leading cooperative institutions from India and abroad.

Speaking on the occasion,  Jyotindra Mehta, President of NUCFDC, said that Co-op Kumbh 2025 represents “a new dawn for the cooperative credit movement — a convergence of ideas, innovation, and inclusion where technology meets trust.” He added that the goal is to build a digitally empowered cooperative ecosystem that ensures prosperity for every member of society.

Through this global platform, NAFCUB aims to strengthen India’s position as a leader in cooperative innovation, aligning the sector’s growth with the broader goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India. The conference is expected to generate policy recommendations for the Ministry of Cooperation, the Reserve Bank of India, and State Governments, alongside new partnerships and knowledge exchanges between Indian and international cooperative institutions.

With participation from over 1,500 Urban Cooperative Banks, 60,000 Credit Societies, and global representatives from WOCCU, ICA, ICBA, and ACCU, Co-op Kumbh 2025 is poised to become a landmark event in India’s cooperative history. It will reaffirm the role of cooperatives as vital engines of inclusive growth, ethical finance, and community resilience in the country’s evolving economic landscape.
