266 Indians Rescued from Southeast Asia Cybercrime Centres Repatriated

New Delhi, Mar 12, 2025: Following the repatriation of 283 Indians rescued from cybercrime hubs in Myanmar, the Indian government has successfully brought back an additional 266 individuals.

In a post on X, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand collaborated closely with the respective authorities to ensure the release of Indian nationals trapped in cyber fraud networks and to facilitate their safe return.

“The Government of India arranged for the repatriation of 266 Indians yesterday via an Indian Air Force aircraft. These individuals were freed from cybercrime syndicates operating in Southeast Asia,” the MEA spokesperson noted.

The statement further highlighted that just a day prior, 283 Indians had been similarly repatriated.

The Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand played a key role in securing the release of these individuals, working in coordination with local governments and law enforcement agencies. Their efforts ensured that those who had been lured into fraudulent cybercrime operations were safely returned home.

India has been actively addressing concerns regarding its citizens being misled into jobs in foreign countries that ultimately force them into illegal cyber activities. The government has been working with regional authorities to crack down on such networks and bring back affected individuals.

This latest effort underscores India’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and taking decisive action against transnational cybercrime. Authorities continue to monitor and respond to such cases to prevent further exploitation of Indian nationals.
