New Delhi, March 11 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that sports are not only a means to win medals but also a way to win the hearts of people. He said that sports create champions and foster peace, progress, and welfare. Sports also serve as a powerful medium to connect the world. The Chief Minister encouraged police personnel to embrace sportsmanship in their daily lives and not limit it to the playing field, urging them to incorporate discipline, dedication, and teamwork into their professional duties.

The Chief Minister was speaking as the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony held during the closing event of the 73rd All India Police Volleyball Group 2024-25 games at the Madhuban Police Academy in Karnal district. He also presented awards to the winning players.

The Chief Minister said that the competition not only showcased sportsmanship but also symbolized the discipline, unity, and dedication of the police force. He said that sports are more than just a form of entertainment; they are an important medium for fostering discipline, teamwork, patience, and self-confidence. Beyond enhancing physical performance, sports also strengthen mental resilience and inspire individuals to stand firm in the face of adversity.

Police personnel are engaged around the clock in ensuring the country’s internal security and protecting citizens

The Chief Minister said that sports play a vital role in enhancing the performance of police forces in carrying out their duties. Players from 35 teams representing different states participated in the competition, including 791 men, 297 women, and 65 technical officers.

While congratulating the winning players, Sh Nayab Singh Saini acknowledged the tireless efforts of police personnel, who are engaged around the clock in ensuring the country’s internal security and protecting citizens. He said that whether responding to natural disasters, maintaining law and order, or managing public cooperation during emergencies, the police force is always at the forefront. He also said that police personnel not only fulfill their responsibilities but are also making a significant impact in the field of sports. This competition provided players with an opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities, while also gaining insight into each other’s emotions, beliefs, and lifestyles. Such exchanges, he added, strengthen the sense of national unity.

The Chief Minister said that there is a deep connection between sports and the police force, emphasizing that a good soldier is also a good player. He added that sports play a crucial role in maintaining fitness. On the strength of its players, India is emerging as a major force in the Olympics and other international sports events. He highlighted that players from Haryana have made the most significant contributions to this achievement. Just a few days ago, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu honoured 11 players from Haryana for their remarkable accomplishments.

He further mentioned that out of the 6 medals won by India at the 2024 Paris Olympics, 5 were secured by players from Haryana. Similarly, at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Haryana players brought home 4 out of the 7 medals won by India. In the 2022 Asian Games, Haryana players contributed 28 out of the 111 medals won by India. In addition, Haryana athletes won 20 medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. This is the result of the visionary sports policy of the government.

The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Utkrishta Khiladi Sewa Rules 2021 have been implemented to ensure secure employment for athletes. As part of this initiative, 550 new positions have been created in the Sports Department, and to date, 224 players have been given government jobs. The state has also introduced a reservation provision for players in categories one to four in direct recruitment. Haryana is the first state to offer cash prizes to medal winners, with a total of Rs 591 crore in cash awards distributed so far. Additionally, honorariums are being given to 218 players who have excelled in sports.

He encouraged the players to focus on playing their respective sports with determination, aiming to win both for themselves and for their teams. Even if they face defeat, he said that they would gain valuable lessons from the experience. Quoting the Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that once Prime Minister also said, “Sports is a field where no one loses; everyone learns.” He further highlighted that the role of police personnel is crucial in the development of both a developed India and a developed Haryana.

Haryana got the responsibility of hosting the All India Police Games for the 19th time

Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said that Haryana Police has had the honour of hosting the All India Police Games for the 19th time. He highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the state government to support the players. He mentioned that the government has increased the allowances for players threefold, and the uniform allowance has been raised by two and a half times. Additionally, mobile allowances have been introduced, and travel allowances have been extended from 10 days to 20 days. Ration allowances have also been increased. He further said that the ex-gratia amount provided to the families of martyrs has been tripled. In terms of education and infrastructure, he shared that 22 police public schools have been established in the state, along with 16 e-libraries set up in police lines. Moreover, gyms have been set up in every district to support the fitness and well-being of the police personnel.

On this occasion, Joint Director IB Sh Vidhu Shekhar also addressed the event. Secretary of the Organizing Committee and Inspector General of Police Om Prakash and other officers were also present on this occasion.
