Jennifer Siebel Newsom criticises Trump over Norah O’Donnell interaction in 60 Minutes interview

California First Lady calls out alleged disrespect and “culture of misogyny” after heated exchange on national television

United States- California Governor Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, has strongly criticised President Donald Trump for his behaviour during a recent 60 Minutes interview with CBS journalist Norah O’Donnell. She accused the President of showing contempt toward a woman journalist and said such conduct reflects a wider “culture of misogyny”.

The controversy stems from Trump’s interview aired on April 26, 2026, where he reacted sharply to O’Donnell’s questions regarding a White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting-related case and remarks from a suspect’s manifesto. At one point, Trump called O’Donnell “horrible” and pushed back aggressively on the questioning, leading to a tense exchange on air.

In a post on social media platform X, Siebel Newsom said she and her family were “shocked” by the tone of the interview, adding that seeing a president speak to a female journalist with such “contempt” was disturbing. She argued that repeated incidents of such behaviour from public figures can influence societal attitudes, particularly shaping how young men perceive women in positions of authority.

She further stated that when disrespectful rhetoric is amplified through political and digital spaces, it contributes to normalising hostility and aggression toward women. According to her, this leads to the acceptance of harmful behaviour that should instead be challenged.

Siebel Newsom also thanked Norah O’Donnell and other women journalists for continuing to report and “speak truth to power”, emphasising that addressing misogyny requires collective responsibility.

During the interview itself, Trump defended his remarks and strongly rejected the implications of the questions posed to him, insisting that he was being misrepresented and expressing frustration over references made to the suspect’s manifesto.

The exchange has since sparked widespread debate over media conduct, political rhetoric, and gender dynamics in high-profile interviews, drawing strong reactions across political and public circles.
