Jaipur, August 21, 2026; A dispute over the condition of a government school in Rampura Kanwarpura, Jaipur district, turned tense on Friday after members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) alleged that they were attacked while visiting the premises.
CJP members claimed that their delegation faced stone-pelting and physical assault during an inspection of the school, which they said had earlier been functioning from a makeshift structure. The group also alleged that some volunteers suffered injuries and that their vehicle was damaged during the confrontation.
CJP activist Ashutosh Ranka accused the Rajasthan administration of failing to prevent the incident and demanded action against those allegedly involved. He also called for the withdrawal of the Education Department’s recent restrictions concerning entry and filming at government schools.
Another CJP volunteer, Sanju, alleged that members of the group were pushed and beaten with sticks after reaching the school. She said she sustained an injury to her hand during the clash.
The allegations prompted criticism from Rajasthan Congress leaders. Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully condemned the incident and said disputes over the condition of government schools should be addressed without violence. Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra also accused BJP workers of attempting to prevent scrutiny of public infrastructure, an allegation that the ruling side has not accepted.
Villagers, however, offered a contrasting version of events. Jugal Kishore Sharma denied attacking the CJP delegation and alleged that a large group had arrived at the location. He claimed the visitors damaged their own vehicle and said residents opposed attempts to alter or dismantle the existing school structure.
Another local resident, Anu Sharma, said villagers were concerned about the 20-25 students studying at the facility and claimed that residents only engaged in a heated argument with the visiting group.
Locals further said that ₹12 lakh had already been sanctioned through the area MLA for repairing the school, arguing that there was therefore no need for an outside group to intervene in the building’s renovation.
The confrontation comes amid a wider political dispute over Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar‘s directions concerning access to government schools. Opposition groups have criticised the restrictions, claiming they could limit public scrutiny of poor school infrastructure, while the government has maintained that the measures are intended to protect students and maintain order.
The latest clash has added to tensions surrounding the issue, with both CJP members and local residents presenting sharply different accounts of what happened during the school visit.
