Kejriwal Questions BJP Over Viral Drug Video, Punjab Police Says Footage Is From Rajasthan

New Delhi, August 11, 2026; Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has questioned the BJP over the circulation of a video that was presented on social media as showing drug abuse in Punjab. The controversy intensified after Punjab Police identified the footage as being from Rajasthan.

Kejriwal alleged that several BJP leaders had circulated the same video while linking it to Punjab. Raising questions over the coordinated posts, the former Delhi Chief Minister asked whether the claims were part of a direction issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The dispute began after BJP MP Harbhajan Singh shared the video while expressing concern over drug addiction among Punjab’s youth. His post described the footage as evidence of the worsening drug problem in the state and appealed for stronger action to protect young people from substance abuse.

Punjab Police subsequently issued a clarification on the video. According to the police, the footage originated in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and was not connected with Punjab or the Punjab Police. The force also cautioned social media users against determining the location of an incident merely from the language or audio used in a video.

The development has triggered a political exchange between the BJP and AAP, with Kejriwal using the police clarification to question the claims made by BJP leaders. The AAP has repeatedly made drug-related issues a major political subject in Punjab.

Kejriwal has also been leading his party’s campaign against the Centre’s E20 fuel policy. The AAP has raised questions over the impact of ethanol-blended petrol on vehicles and has demanded greater transparency over fuel-related findings.

The party has further argued that consumers should have access to different fuel options, including conventional petrol, at filling stations. The issue has become another point of confrontation between the AAP and the BJP.

The latest controversy over the viral video has therefore added to the wider political exchanges between the two parties, with the authenticity and location of social media content emerging as the immediate focus of the dispute.
