New Delhi, April 16, 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major skill development initiative aimed at modernising Industrial Training Institutes across the capital with advanced technology laboratories designed to match current industry requirements.
Under the plan, four ITIs in Delhi will receive new high-tech labs along with upgrades to existing infrastructure, with a strong focus on improving employability and practical training for students entering technical fields.
A dedicated Power Electronics Lab will be established at ITI Jahangirpuri, where trainees will receive hands on experience in automation systems, renewable energy tools, motor control systems, and industrial electronics. The facility will be equipped with modern training systems such as PLC kits, VFD trainers, and solar energy modules.
At ITI Jail Road in Hari Nagar, the welding infrastructure will be upgraded with simulation based training, advanced fabrication tools, and modern welding equipment to help students gain real industrial exposure and safety skills.
ITI Arab Ki Sarai in Nizamuddin will see the introduction of Virtual Reality based training systems for automotive trades, allowing students to practice driving, welding, and painting in a controlled digital environment, along with training in advanced vehicle technologies like ABS and airbag systems.
An Electric Vehicle Lab will also be set up at HJB ITI in Mayur Vihar, focusing on battery systems, EV motors, charging infrastructure, and diagnostics to prepare students for the rapidly growing clean mobility sector.
The Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at building a future ready workforce aligned with industry needs and expanding opportunities for both employment and entrepreneurship. She added that the programme supports the vision of Narendra Modi for skill development and youth empowerment.
Officials stated that the upgraded training centres will benefit hundreds of students across different trades including electrical, mechanical, automotive, electronics, and refrigeration, making the ITI system more aligned with modern industrial demand.
With these upgrades, Delhi’s vocational education network is expected to move closer to becoming a hub for advanced technical training and industry linked skill development.
