Bhuvan Bam Recalls Delhi Police Mistaking Him for Pickpocket Amid Fan Frenzy

New Delhi, September 3, 2026; YouTube star and actor Bhuvan Bam has recalled an unusual incident from the early days of his rise to fame when Delhi Police allegedly mistook him for a pickpocket after a crowd of fans gathered around him at Sarojini Nagar.

Bhuvan, who rose to popularity with his digital comedy series BB Ki Vines, shared the anecdote while speaking at the StoryBoard18 Global GenZ Summit. He also reflected on the difficulties he faced while convincing his parents to support his decision to pursue content creation instead of taking up a conventional job.

According to Bhuvan, he had initially asked his parents for two years to prove that he could build a career through digital content. By the time he had around 600,000 followers, his growing popularity had begun attracting attention in public places.

One such incident took place when Bhuvan accompanied his mother to Sarojini Nagar for shopping. What began as a routine outing quickly turned chaotic after people recognised him outside the vehicle.

As more fans gathered around the YouTuber, the situation attracted the attention of police personnel. However, instead of recognising Bhuvan as a popular content creator, the police initially suspected him of being involved in a theft.

Recalling the incident, Bhuvan said the police took him by the collar and questioned him about allegedly picking someone’s pocket. He explained that, at the time, he had long hair and frequently wore a bandana, which may have contributed to the misunderstanding.

Bhuvan then attempted to explain that he was a YouTuber and showed the police his videos to establish his identity. Meanwhile, the crowd outside continued chanting his name.

After realising that they had mistaken him for someone else, the police let him go and advised him to return home.

The incident, however, became much more significant for Bhuvan because of his mother’s reaction. During their journey back, he looked at her through the rear-view mirror and noticed that she was smiling.

For his mother, seeing a large crowd recognise and cheer for her son appeared to be the moment when she truly understood the scale of his success. Bhuvan said she was extremely happy, particularly because he had earlier faced doubts at home over his unconventional career choice.

From asking his parents for an opportunity to pursue content creation to becoming one of India’s prominent digital entertainers, Bhuvan’s journey has reflected the changing possibilities within India’s creator economy.

Bhuvan Bam’s upcoming project

Bhuvan Bam is set to appear in The Revolutionaries, a period drama inspired by true events and set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle.

The series has been created and directed by filmmaker Nikkhil Advani and produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under the banner of Emmay Entertainment.

The show features Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada in lead roles, along with Jason Shah, Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury in key roles. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 11.
