Goregaon Concert Deaths: MBA Student Ordered Ecstasy Pills for Group, Probe Deepens

Police say tablets were distributed among students before two fatalities and one hospitalisation

The investigation into the deaths of two management students following a music event in Goregaon has revealed new details, with police stating that one of the attendees had allegedly procured Ecstasy pills for the group.

According to Mumbai Police, a final-year student from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) is suspected to have ordered multiple tablets from an alleged drug supplier. The pills were reportedly delivered near the venue ahead of the event.

Investigators believe that the tablets were shared among several students attending the concert at the NESCO Exhibition Centre. Witness statements suggest that a member of the group distributed the pills, which were later consumed by multiple attendees.

Soon after, at least three students began showing symptoms such as breathing difficulty, dizziness, and convulsions. They were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Two of them later succumbed, while another student remains under medical supervision at a private hospital in the city.

Police have already arrested the alleged supplier, identified as Anand Patel, and are probing his network. Another suspect is being questioned to determine whether he played a role in the supply chain.

Officials said that the accused student had reportedly been in contact with the supplier earlier as well, and had arranged the purchase through known links.

Authorities have sent biological samples for forensic testing to confirm the exact cause of death. While the final report is awaited, preliminary findings indicate that the victims may have suffered severe reactions after consuming the substance.

The incident has sparked concern, with members of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena staging a protest outside the local police station. The party has demanded stricter scrutiny of large events and questioned the permissions granted for such gatherings.

Police are continuing to record statements from those present at the concert and are working to establish the complete chain of events, including how the drugs were sourced and distributed.

The case has once again raised alarm over substance abuse among youth and the need for tighter checks at large public events.
