London, August 20, 2026; Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to relocate to Britain with their children, Archie and Lilibet, nearly six years after establishing their life in the United States.
People familiar with the couple’s plans told The New York Times that the family is expected to return to Britain in the coming weeks. Their children are also reportedly set to attend a school in the country, with classes expected to begin in September.
The reported move comes more than six years after Harry and Meghan stepped away from their positions as senior working members of the British royal family in 2020. They subsequently settled in the United States and began building a separate public and professional life there.
King Charles III was reportedly informed about the couple’s decision on Sunday. However, the issue was not raised during a meeting between the King and Prince Harry earlier this year, according to one person familiar with the matter.
Harry and Meghan are expected to continue their lives as private citizens rather than resume official royal duties. They are also not believed to be seeking a return to royal residences, although their permanent home in Britain has not yet been disclosed.
The family’s return could mark a significant change for Archie and Lilibet, who have spent the majority of their childhood in the United States. Their reported enrolment at a British school would also mean that both children will spend more time in the country where their father was born.
Security has previously been a major concern for Prince Harry. Since leaving Britain, he has raised concerns about the protection available to him and his family and has pursued legal action over his security arrangements.
The Sussexes’ relationship with the royal family has remained complicated since their departure. Harry detailed several aspects of his experiences within the monarchy in his 2023 memoir, Spare, while he and Meghan also discussed their time as working royals in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
After moving to the US, the couple entered into major commercial ventures, including a Netflix partnership. Their documentary series, Harry & Meghan, examined their relationship with the royal institution and their decision to step away from royal responsibilities.
Buckingham Palace has reportedly declined to comment on the claims surrounding the family’s planned relocation, while representatives for Harry and Meghan have not publicly confirmed the reported move.
If completed, the relocation would bring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back to Britain while maintaining their status outside the working royal family.
