UP Govt Reports 23,601 Wanted Criminals Arrested, Assets Worth ₹15,233 Crore Seized Since 2017

Government cites police encounters, Gangsters Act action and cybercrime measures in latest law-and-order data

Lucknow, October 3, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh government has released details of police and administrative action against criminals and organised crime since March 20, 2017, citing arrests, property seizures, action under criminal laws and measures to tackle cybercrime.

According to figures released by the state government, 23,601 criminals carrying cash rewards were arrested and sent to jail during the period. Police encounters during the same period resulted in 303 criminals being killed and 12,202 injured, according to the government data.

The government said legal action under the Gangsters Act was initiated against 87,835 criminals, while 995 people were booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

₹15,233 Crore in Assets Seized

The government reported that movable and immovable assets worth more than ₹15,233 crore were seized under the Gangsters Act. The figures include properties described by authorities as illegal assets linked to criminals and mafia elements.

Separately, authorities have taken action against 68 state-level identified mafia figures, along with members and associates of their gangs. A total of 909 cases were registered in these operations, while 651 people were arrested, according to the government.

Cybercrime Measures Expanded

The state government also highlighted measures taken to strengthen its response to cybercrime. Cybercrime police stations are operational in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, alongside cyber cells and help desks at police stations, according to the figures released.

Through the cybercrime portal and helpline 1930, more than ₹874.58 crore was reported to have been frozen or put on hold between August 2019 and June 2026.

Yogi Adityanath Highlights Police Reforms

The figures were released shortly after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted police reforms and technology-driven measures at a programme on October 1.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of 87 interceptor vehicles, Adityanath said his government had undertaken police reforms and expanded the use of technology for policing. He cited the installation of more than 14 lakh cameras, the establishment of Integrated Command and Control Centres in every district and the implementation of Safe City-related initiatives.

The latest figures form part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s account of its law-and-order measures since 2017. The data covers arrests, police operations, action under the Gangsters Act and NSA, seizures of assets and measures against cybercrime.
