Marjorie Taylor Greene's explosive allegation over possible US nuclear action against Iran remains unverified as Washington maintains silence.
Marjorie Taylor Greene raises claims over Trump nuclear weapons policy toward Iran

Washington, DC, August 17, 2026; Former US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has alleged that discussions are taking place within the White House over the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran, but her claims have not been independently substantiated or confirmed by US authorities.

Greene made the allegations in a post on X, claiming that senior officials were involved in meetings concerning the potential deployment of nuclear weapons. She described the discussions as serious and accused the administration of moving towards a lower threshold for considering nuclear action.

The former congresswoman did not provide documents or other evidence to support her assertions. She also did not disclose the identities of the officials she alleged were involved in the discussions.

Greene further claimed that US intelligence assessments do not suggest Iran is close to producing a nuclear weapon. According to her, the administration is instead giving significant weight to warnings from Israel regarding the Iranian nuclear programme.

She warned that any decision by Washington to use nuclear weapons could dramatically widen the conflict and create severe humanitarian and economic consequences. Greene also argued that such an escalation would contradict President Donald Trump‘s earlier pledge to avoid prolonged foreign wars.

There has been no public confirmation from the White House, Pentagon or other US authorities that the country’s nuclear policy has changed or that nuclear strikes against Iran are being prepared.

The allegations emerge against the backdrop of continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The two countries have remained locked in a confrontation involving military pressure, regional security concerns and disputes surrounding maritime access, including the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has continued to reject US demands while issuing increasingly strong warnings against American military forces in the region. Iranian Army Chief Amir Hatami has also reportedly announced a reward linked to the capture or killing of US personnel, adding to the already tense atmosphere.

Efforts to reach a durable diplomatic settlement over Iran’s nuclear activities have meanwhile failed to deliver a breakthrough.

Greene, who has generally been a supporter of Trump, has previously criticised his administration’s approach towards Iran. She also opposed the US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, arguing that the action conflicted with campaign promises to avoid overseas military interventions.

Her latest comments have therefore renewed questions about divisions among Trump’s supporters over Washington’s Iran strategy. However, in the absence of official confirmation or supporting evidence, the allegation that the United States is preparing to use nuclear weapons against Iran remains unverified.
