Indore– Fresh controversy has erupted in the sensational honeymoon murder case of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi after a court in Meghalaya granted bail to his wife, Sonam, who is among the prime accused. The development has left the victim’s family shocked, prompting them to demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Expressing deep anguish, the family said they would challenge the bail order before the Meghalaya High Court, seeking its intervention to overturn the decision.
Raja Raghuvanshi had gone missing in May last year while on a honeymoon trip with his wife in Meghalaya. His body was later discovered in a gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra region of East Khasi Hills district, raising suspicions of a planned murder. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Sonam and several others, including her alleged partner, for their suspected involvement in the crime.
Despite the lengthy investigation conducted by the state police over several months, the recent bail granted to Sonam has triggered questions from the victim’s family. Raja’s mother said she was unable to understand how someone they believe to be the “mastermind” behind the killing could secure bail after such a detailed probe.
The family has also raised concerns about possible irregularities in the investigation. Raja’s brother claimed that the prosecution has not shared the chargesheet with them, limiting their ability to examine the case details. He further alleged that procedural arguments presented in court—particularly regarding how the arrest was communicated—played a key role in securing bail.
Sonam had been arrested in June last year from Uttar Pradesh and remained in judicial custody for over ten months. Police had earlier filed a detailed chargesheet naming multiple accused in what they described as a conspiracy to murder.
With emotions running high, the victim’s family has reiterated its demand for a central agency investigation, arguing that only an independent probe can ensure justice in the case.
