Jaipur- Four police personnel, including a station house officer, have been booked in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi town following allegations of custodial assault on a 16-year-old boy who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jaipur.
Police said the case was registered after the victim’s family approached senior officials with a complaint, prompting an inquiry into the incident. The minor had been detained on April 21 in connection with a two-wheeler theft case.
Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Sahoo confirmed that the boy is admitted to NIMS Hospital Jaipur, where his condition is being closely monitored.
According to officials, the boy was allowed to speak to his family shortly after being taken into custody. However, when his relatives visited the police station the following day, they were allegedly not permitted to meet him.
On April 23, the family was informed that the teenager had been admitted to a local hospital. When they arrived, they reportedly found him unconscious. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to Jaipur for further treatment.
The family has alleged that the minor was assaulted while in custody and claimed they were prevented from recording evidence of his injuries. A medical examination has been conducted, and investigators are reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage.
An FIR has been registered against the SHO and three constables under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.
Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay said that the investigation is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
The incident has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders raising concerns over alleged custodial violence and calling for strict accountability.
