Mumbai, January 17: Speculation surrounding Don 3 has intensified following reports that Shah Rukh Khan may return to the franchise after Ranveer Singh’s reported exit from the project. Industry sources suggest that discussions are underway, though no official confirmation has been issued by the filmmakers.
According to media reports, Shah Rukh Khan is open to reprising his iconic role under the direction of Farhan Akhtar, who helmed the earlier Don films. However, the actor is said to have placed a key condition before committing to the project — the association of Jawan director Atlee. The move is reportedly aimed at expanding the film’s scale and enhancing its mass appeal.
Ranveer Singh was earlier announced as the new face of the Don franchise, marking a generational transition. However, he is believed to have stepped away from the project late last year. Reports indicate that the decision was driven by a shift in his career priorities, with the actor keen to explore collaborations with select filmmakers and avoid back-to-back gangster roles following the success of Dhurandhar.
The film has also witnessed changes in its supporting cast. Kiara Advani, who was initially onboard as the female lead, is reported to have exited the project. Actress Kriti Sanon is now said to be in consideration for the role, though the makers have not confirmed the casting.
Meanwhile, the antagonist’s role remains undecided. Actors Vikrant Massey and Vijay Deverakonda were reportedly approached but declined, citing concerns over the depth of the character.
With ongoing uncertainty around casting and creative direction, the possibility of Shah Rukh Khan’s return has renewed interest in Don 3. Whether the franchise proceeds with its reboot plan or revisits its original lead is yet to be seen.
