Varanasi, February 22, 2024 – Following a hectic day in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Varanasi and proceeded to inspect the newly inaugurated Shivpur-Phulwaria-Lahartara road around 11 pm. This significant infrastructure project, completed at a cost of Rs 360 crore, promises to greatly benefit around 5 lakh residents living in the southern part of the city, as well as those associated with institutions like BHU (Banaras Hindu University) and BLW (Banaras Locomotive Works).
The road, which was recently opened to the public, is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and substantially reduce travel times for commuters. It serves as a crucial link for those traveling to the airport, Lucknow, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur. For instance, the travel time from BHU to the airport has been reduced from 75 minutes to just 45 minutes, while the journey from Lahartara to Kachahri now takes only 15 minutes instead of the previous 30 minutes.
This ambitious project is a testament to effective inter-ministerial coordination, with contributions from departments such as Railways and Defence, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Varanasi. The improved connectivity and reduced travel times underscore the government’s commitment to promoting ease of living and fostering development in the region.
