In Bihar, at least 19 people lost their lives and 7 were injured due to lightning strikes in the last 24 hours. Most of the casualties occurred when lightning struck people working in fields and those taking shelter under trees during the rain.
Bhagalpur district reported the highest number of casualties, with four deaths. Three deaths each were reported in Begusarai and Jehanabad districts, while two casualties each occurred in Madhepura and Saharsa districts. One death each was reported in Rohtas, Vaishali, Saran, Supaul, and East Champaran districts. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours, predicting heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the Northern, South East, and South-Central parts of the state.
