Jammu and Kashmir : The Indian Army on Thursday dismissed reports of a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir, affirming that the truce remains intact and continues to be observed as per the understanding between the two armies.
In an official statement, the Indian Army clarified, “The ceasefire on the Line of Control is intact and continues to be observed as per the understanding between both the armies (of India and Pakistan). Tension due to some stray incidents of cross-LoC firing and a suspected IED blast on one of our PTLs on the LoC is being dealt with through the established mechanism. No exchange of fire of heavy-calibre weapons has taken place.“
The statement comes in response to recent reports suggesting heightened tensions and violations along the LoC. The Indian Army reassured that while minor incidents do occur from time to time, they do not signify a breakdown of the ceasefire agreement. The Army emphasized that these occurrences are being addressed through established communication channels between India and Pakistan.
Additionally, the Army noted that it has raised its concerns with the Pakistan Army at the appropriate level. “Minor incidents are not unprecedented along the Line of Control. Concerns have been raised with the Pakistan Army at the appropriate level. The situation remains stable and is being closely monitored. The Indian Army maintains a high state of alertness and is effectively dominating the Line of Control,” the statement further read.
The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, reaffirmed in February 2021, has played a crucial role in reducing hostilities along the LoC. Despite sporadic incidents, both countries have largely adhered to the agreement, ensuring relative peace in the region. The Indian Army’s latest statement reinforces the commitment to maintaining stability while being vigilant against any potential threats.
Strategic analysts believe that while localized incidents may occur, the broader framework of the ceasefire remains robust, with diplomatic and military mechanisms in place to prevent escalation. The emphasis on maintaining high alertness and actively monitoring the situation reflects India’s commitment to national security while adhering to peace agreements.
The Indian Army’s proactive stance in addressing concerns at the appropriate level highlights the effectiveness of existing military-to-military communication channels. As both nations continue to navigate the complexities of border management, ensuring stability along the LoC remains a priority.
