Washington DC : Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that India and the United States have set an ambitious target to double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. Addressing a joint press meet after his bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, DC, PM Modi emphasized that the two nations will continue advancing their strategic partnership.
Highlighting the crucial role of the United States in India’s defense preparedness, the Prime Minister stated that both nations are strengthening their strategic and trusted partnership through joint development, joint production, and technology transfer. He underscored the firm stand India and the US take against terrorism, agreeing that concrete action is required to eliminate cross-border terrorism. PM Modi also thanked President Trump for his decision to extradite a criminal responsible for genocide in India in 2008.
PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, with the Quad playing a pivotal role in this mission. He drew a parallel between President Trump’s vision of “Make America Great Again” and India’s pursuit of becoming a developed nation by 2047, blending heritage with progress.
Recognizing the significant role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties, PM Modi announced the opening of new Indian consulates in Los Angeles and Boston. Addressing a query on illegal immigration, he clarified that India is always willing to take back its citizens living illegally in the US while underscoring the importance of legal migration policies.
President Trump lauded the strong bond between India and the US, describing them as the world’s oldest and largest democracies. He highlighted a key agreement on energy cooperation, with the US poised to become a major supplier of oil and natural gas to India. The US President also noted that India is reforming its laws to welcome advanced American nuclear technology, ensuring its highest level of market presence.
Trump further announced that the US is facilitating India’s eventual access to F-35 stealth fighters and reaffirmed collaboration to combat radical Islamic terrorism worldwide. On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, PM Modi stressed the need for diplomacy and expressed support for President Trump’s peace initiatives, affirming that India stands on the side of peace.
