New Delhi : Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has accused the Delhi Police of aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to facilitate its campaign in the national capital. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Kejriwal alleged that the Delhi Police has been actively working against AAP and disrupting its rallies under direct instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
“All the Delhi Police is with the BJP. No one is there for the security and safety of the people. One of the SHOs [Station House Officers] told me they receive direct instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to disrupt our rallies,” Kejriwal claimed. He further alleged that the police’s actions were part of a broader strategy to suppress opposition voices ahead of the upcoming elections.
Kejriwal expressed concerns over potential voter intimidation and obstruction during the polls, saying, “I am afraid voters might be stopped from casting their votes this time. The people of Delhi will have to stand together and give the BJP a strong reply.”
The AAP leader accused the BJP of resorting to “hooliganism” with the active support of the police, asserting that these tactics are being employed out of fear of an electoral loss. “The BJP faces a historic defeat in Delhi, and that is why its workers are resorting to these actions. They are using the police to suppress our campaign and intimidate our volunteers,” Kejriwal alleged.
This is not the first time Kejriwal has raised concerns about the role of the Delhi Police in elections. In the past, he has accused the police of acting under the directives of the central government, particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees the Delhi Police. AAP has long criticized the BJP-led central government for alleged interference in Delhi’s governance and law enforcement.
Kejriwal called upon the citizens of Delhi to remain vigilant and united against any attempts to undermine democratic processes. “We need to protect our democracy. The people of Delhi will decide the fate of this election, not the BJP or the police,” he added.
The allegations have sparked a war of words between AAP and the BJP, with the latter dismissing the accusations as baseless and a reflection of Kejriwal’s desperation. The Delhi Police, however, has not issued a formal response to the allegations.
As the polls draw closer, the political atmosphere in Delhi is intensifying, with both AAP and BJP ramping up their campaigns. Kejriwal’s accusations have added to the already heated political climate, with concerns over the neutrality of the law enforcement agencies taking center stage.
