Delhi Police Launches ‘सजग-साइबर प्रहरी’ Initiative to Combat Cyber Frauds

Awareness Campaign Aims to Empower Senior Citizens and Expand to Schools, Colleges, and RWAs

New Delhi July 26 2024 : On July 26, 2024, Delhi Police introduced a groundbreaking initiative titled ‘सजग-साइबर प्रहरी’ (One Awakens One) aimed at preventing cyber frauds. The event, held at the Police Headquarters (PHQ), marks a significant step in spreading awareness about cyber crimes, particularly targeting senior citizens.

Empowering Citizens Against Cyber Threats

The ‘सजग-साइबर प्रहरी’ initiative seeks to educate the public on safeguarding against cyber crimes, with a special focus on senior citizens, who are often vulnerable to such attacks. The campaign encourages informed individuals to share their knowledge with at least one other person, whether a family member, friend, or neighbor, to create a ripple effect of awareness.

Delhi Police Commissioner Sh. Sanjay Arora launched the initiative, underscoring its importance in preventing the growing trend of cyber frauds. The campaign is set to expand beyond senior citizens to schools, colleges, and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), mirroring the widespread impact of the Self Defence programme by the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC).

Educational Lecture by Cyber Security Expert

Dr. Rakshit Tandon, a prominent Cyber Security Expert, delivered an insightful lecture during the event, explaining various tactics used by cyber criminals and the available safeguards. He advised seniors to avoid clicking unknown links, verify security features before entering OTPs, refrain from downloading apps from dubious sources, and ignore unknown or suspicious QR codes for payments.

Broader Campaign and Community Involvement

Special CP (SPUWAC) Sh. Ajay Chaudhry emphasized that the campaign will extend beyond senior citizens to involve all community members, similar to the Self Defence programme’s model. The initiative will also collaborate with NGOs and other organizations to enhance awareness about cyber frauds and preventive measures.

Distribution of Information and Welfare Schemes

During the event, senior citizens received information brochures detailing Delhi Police helplines and provisions under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act-2007. The program was attended by senior Delhi Police officials, media representatives, and hundreds of senior citizens, who commended the initiative as a timely and essential measure in the fight against cyber crime.

This campaign marks a pivotal moment in Delhi Police’s ongoing efforts to protect and educate the community about cyber threats, ensuring a safer digital environment for all citizens.
