EAM Jaishankar Stresses Resilient India-UAE Partnership in Changing Times

New Delhi : The global landscape is witnessing a profound transformation, bringing both challenges and opportunities that test the resilience of friendships. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, speaking at the 75th Republic Day celebrations organized by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, highlighted the enduring strength of the India-UAE relationship. “These are times when true friendships are both tested and strengthened,” Dr. Jaishankar said, emphasizing the shared values, mutual trust, and growing synergy between the two nations.

The event, attended by prominent dignitaries including Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance; and Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, celebrated the close ties between India and the UAE. Dr. Jaishankar underscored the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in shaping a dynamic partnership that has reached significant milestones across economic, cultural, and diplomatic domains.

Among the standout achievements of this relationship is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has boosted bilateral trade and investments, creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries. Dr. Jaishankar also noted the growing adoption of local currency trading mechanisms, which reduce reliance on external currencies and reflect the deepening trust in financial collaboration. The construction of the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, a symbol of cultural harmony and mutual respect, was highlighted as another testament to the partnership’s unique character.

Dr. Jaishankar paid special attention to the people-centric dimension of the India-UAE relationship, calling it a “story of its people.” He acknowledged the contributions of the Indian diaspora, which now exceeds 4 million, and highlighted the significant impact of the 4.5 million Indian tourists who visit the UAE annually. These numbers, he said, reflect the warmth and respect that define interactions between the two countries. The minister expressed gratitude to the UAE government for its unwavering support of the Indian community and assured that India remains committed to improving the quality of life for its citizens abroad.

During his three-day visit, Dr. Jaishankar will also deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of Raisina Middle East, set to take place in Abu Dhabi. The event underscores India and the UAE’s joint commitment to addressing regional and global challenges through dialogue and collaboration.
