New Delhi August 15 2024 : On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted and congratulated the Indian athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics at his residence in New Delhi. The Indian contingent made the nation proud by securing a total of six medals during the Games. Notable medalists included Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, Swapnil Kusale, the Indian men’s hockey team, and javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
During the meeting, PM Modi commended the exceptional performances of the athletes, particularly praising the Indian men’s hockey team, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, and fellow athletes Sarabjot Singh and Aman Sehrawat. His appreciation extended to all members of the contingent for their significant contributions to India’s Olympic success. Notably, silver medallist Neeraj Chopra was unable to attend the event due to his ongoing medical consultation in Germany. According to a report, Chopra’s return to India has been delayed as he seeks treatment from a doctor in Germany. A family source informed , “Chopra has left for Germany and will not return to India for another month and a half. He is consulting a doctor there.”
In a related event, Manu Bhaker met with President Droupadi Murmu on August 14. Bhaker, reflecting on her journey from the Tokyo Olympics to Paris, attributed her success to her dedicated team and expressed gratitude to President Murmu and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha. “My journey was challenging, but my team’s hard work transformed our earlier finishes into bronze medals in Paris. Special thanks to PT Usha for her support,” Bhaker said.
