Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath holds high level meeting on fuel saving and energy conservation measures in Uttar Pradesh

State government outlines steps to reduce fuel consumption, promote clean energy and public transport use

Lucknow, May 13, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high level review meeting in Lucknow to discuss state preparedness in view of global conditions and the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging citizens to reduce fuel consumption and adopt energy saving practices.

The Chief Minister appealed for practical implementation of the Prime Minister’s message across the state and stressed the need to avoid unnecessary use of electricity in government buildings, homes and private establishments. He also encouraged wider adoption of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme to promote renewable energy usage.

He further urged institutions across the state to prioritise work from home arrangements, suggesting that organisations with large workforces consider issuing advisories for working from home twice a week. He also recommended that 50 percent of internal meetings in state secretariats and directorates be conducted in virtual mode.

In a major administrative directive, the Chief Minister ordered an immediate 50 percent reduction in official convoys of the Chief Minister, ministers and other public representatives. He also suggested that ministers, MPs and MLAs use public transport once a week and promote carpooling, cycling and electric vehicle usage.

The Chief Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s tourism potential and encouraged the promotion of heritage sites, eco locations, forts and other destinations for weddings and events. He also called for promoting locally made products, handicrafts and Indian goods during festivals and ceremonies, while advising reduced use of edible oils in food preparation at large events.

He additionally appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary gold purchases and directed officials to engage with jewellers’ associations and traders to address their concerns and ensure smooth communication regarding the advisory measures.
