Ram Temple Embezzlement Row: Supreme Court Urged to Preserve Digital Evidence Before It Disappears

Supreme Court Asked to Protect Digital Evidence Amid Fears of Loss

New Delhi, June 29, 2026: The Supreme Court, for the second time during the ongoing summer vacation period, did not assure an urgent hearing on petitions seeking judicial intervention in the alleged Ram Temple embezzlement case. The development came as one of the petitioners warned that crucial electronic evidence could potentially disappear if immediate steps were not taken.

Advocate N.K. Goswami, while making an unlisted oral mention before a Vacation Bench headed by Justice M.M. Sundresh, raised concerns over the preservation of digital records, including CCTV footage, electronic payment details, and access logs linked to the matter.

Goswami argued that digital evidence requires immediate protection as it is vulnerable to being erased, overwritten, altered, or damaged over time. He stressed that unlike physical records, electronic systems continue to operate regardless of court schedules, creating a risk that important information may no longer remain available.

“Electronic evidence is unlike a stone inscription. A CCTV system does not wait for court vacations. A DVR does not respect a listing schedule. Digital payment logs and access records can be modified, migrated or deleted,” he said.

The petitioner further stated that delays in securing such evidence could affect the fairness of future proceedings, adding that postponement in matters involving preservation of material evidence may ultimately result in denial of justice.

The plea seeks the Supreme Court’s intervention for safeguarding records related to the alleged financial irregularities. The court has not yet committed to an immediate hearing, leaving the petitioners awaiting further consideration.

The matter has drawn attention due to the importance of maintaining transparency and ensuring that evidence remains intact during legal proceedings.
