Washington, Jan30,2025: A devastating crash near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., has claimed the lives of 18 individuals, whose bodies have been recovered from the Potomac River. The incident involved a passenger plane colliding with an Army Blackhawk helicopter on Wednesday evening, according to local media reports.

The collision, which occurred near the airport, caused both aircraft to plummet into the river. Despite extensive rescue efforts, no survivors have been found thus far. As authorities continue to search the waters, CNN confirmed that the rescue teams have not been able to recover any living passengers.

American Airlines, the carrier responsible for the commercial passenger flight, confirmed in a statement that the plane was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. The airline has established a hotline to assist concerned families seeking information about their loved ones aboard the flight.

The U.S. Army reported that the Blackhawk helicopter was carrying three soldiers at the time of the collision, as stated by a U.S. defense official.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also took to social media platform X, expressing that the Pentagon is “actively monitoring” the unfolding events and stands ready to provide any necessary assistance.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crash occurred around 9 p.m. EST (0200 GMT Thursday). The collision involved a regional jet, which had departed from Wichita, Kansas, and a military Blackhawk helicopter. Following the incident, all takeoffs and landings at Reagan National Airport have been suspended as authorities work to clear the scene and assess the damage.
