Landmark Legal Texts on New Criminal Laws unveiled

Chandigarh, January 23, 2025- In a landmark event, the Punjab and Haryana High Court became the venue for the release of three significant legal commentaries authored by Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, IAS (Retd.). These publications aim to simplify and explain the newly introduced criminal laws of India. The event took place at the Punjab and Haryana Bar Association Room, with Hon’ble Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, unveiling the texts.

The books, titled “A Treatise and Commentary on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” “A Treatise and Commentary on the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita,” and “A Treatise and Commentary on the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam,” have been co-authored by legal experts Ravindra Khandelwal, Kamaljeet Dahiya, Anu Singh, and Varun Chugh. They address the significant shift in India’s criminal justice system, moving away from colonial-era statutes to laws tailored for contemporary challenges.

Presiding over the occasion, Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal, Former Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh, underscored the importance of these reforms. He pointed out how these laws are designed to address emerging issues like cybercrime, terrorism, and mob violence, while promoting fairness and equality in the legal system.

Justice Sheel Nagu praised the new legal framework, emphasizing its role in strengthening the justice system to meet modern-day needs. He described the texts as essential tools for legal professionals to better understand the rationale and application of the new laws.

The ceremony was led by Jasdev Singh Brar, Acting President of the Punjab and Haryana Bar Association, and coordinated by Swarn Singh Tiwana, Honorary Secretary. The event attracted many distinguished members of the legal community, reflecting its importance in the evolution of Indian law.

Dr. Khandelwal, known for his extensive contributions to literature on law and management, has once again demonstrated his ability to provide clarity on complex topics. His latest works are expected to serve as crucial resources for navigating India’s updated legal landscape.

This release marks a pivotal moment for the Indian legal fraternity, offering insightful interpretations of laws that aim to enhance the justice delivery system and reflect the aspirations of a modern nation.
