Centre Unveils JANANI Digital Platform to Transform Maternal and Child Healthcare Across India

Union Health Ministry Launches Advanced National System for Women’s Reproductive and Child Health Monitoring

New Delhi, May 7, 2026: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has introduced JANANI, a major digital healthcare initiative aimed at strengthening maternal and child health services nationwide through comprehensive real time monitoring and record management.

Launched during the National Summit on Innovation and Inclusivity focused on best healthcare practices, JANANI, which stands for Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care, is designed to digitally track women’s health throughout their reproductive years while ensuring uninterrupted care for both mothers and children.

Built as an enhanced version of the earlier Reproductive and Child Health portal, the platform creates long term digital health records by documenting every crucial stage of care, including antenatal services, childbirth, postnatal care, newborn support and family planning services.

A major feature of the new system is the introduction of QR based digital Mother and Child Health cards, allowing easy portability and nationwide access to health records. JANANI also includes automated alerts for high risk pregnancies, due date reminders, real time dashboards for health officials and targeted intervention tools to improve service delivery.

The platform is integrated with major national welfare systems such as U WIN and POSHAN, ensuring seamless coordination across healthcare and nutrition programmes. It also supports beneficiary registration through ABHA, Aadhaar verification and mobile based systems, helping migratory populations maintain continuous healthcare records without duplication.

Health officials said JANANI empowers women by enabling self registration, timely appointment scheduling, immunization tracking, healthcare facility access and nutrition guidance. The initiative is expected to significantly improve accountability, service efficiency and long term maternal and child health outcomes across the country.

According to official data, the platform has already registered 1.34 crore beneficiaries, including over 30 lakh pregnant women, generated more than 30 lakh digital health cards and completed over one lakh biometric verifications.

The launch of JANANI marks a major policy push by the government towards technology driven healthcare reform, reinforcing its commitment to accessible, inclusive and quality healthcare services for women and children across India.
