Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launches ‘Green Drive Portal’; Calls for Making ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ a People’s Movement

Every Delhiite Can Now Become a 'Green Warrior' Through the Green Drive Portal

New Delhi, July 1, 2026 : Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today officially launched the Green Drive Portal (greendrive.delhivanmahotsav.in) at a special programme organised by the Department of Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Government of Delhi. The portal is a pioneering digital initiative aimed at transforming the upcoming ‘Ridge Forest Restoration Programme – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ into a large-scale people’s movement. On the occasion, the Chief Minister urged every citizen of Delhi to actively participate in this landmark environmental campaign.

A large number of Delhi Green Warriors also participated in the programme. These dedicated volunteers pledged to take the message of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign to every household and encourage greater public participation in tree plantation and environmental conservation. Appreciating their enthusiasm and commitment, the Chief Minister said that the campaign to make Delhi greener and cleaner can succeed only through active public participation alongside the Government’s efforts.

Four Key Features of the Green Drive Portal

The Chief Minister stated that the portal is not merely a digital platform but a powerful medium for citizen participation. Citizens can now join the campaign directly from their mobile phones or computers through the following four free services:

– Plantation Slot Booking: Citizens can conveniently select their preferred location and time to book an online slot for tree plantation.

– ‘Vriksh Rath’ Facility: If individuals, schools, offices, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), or housing societies have adequate space for plantation, the Delhi Government will deliver saplings free of cost directly to their premises.

– Nursery Locator: Citizens can locate their nearest government nursery and collect free saplings with ease.

– Environment Saviour: This feature enables every Delhiite to become a registered ‘Green Warrior’ by actively participating in Delhi Government’s environmental initiatives and making a long-term contribution towards environmental conservation.

Appealing to the people of Delhi, the Chief Minister said that this is not merely a government initiative but a campaign belonging to every citizen of the Capital. She urged every family to plant ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ and gift future generations of cleaner air and a greener environment. She added that every sapling planted today would be a significant step towards securing Delhi’s environmental future.

Key Highlights and Upcoming Programme

– Grand Launch: The Ridge Forest Restoration Programme will be formally inaugurated in the month July 2026 by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah. During the programme, the Union Home Minister will undertake plantation activities at various Ridge locations across Delhi from north to south.

– Target of 7 Million Saplings: Under this large-scale campaign, 7 million (70 lakh) saplings will be planted across Delhi, significantly expanding the Capital’s green cover.

– Promotion of Clean Mobility: Alongside the environmental campaign, 300 new electric buses and buses on new inter-state routes will also be flagged off during the programme.

– Scientific Plantation Approach: A three-tier forest structure will be developed to strengthen biodiversity, carbon sequestration and soil conservation in the Ridge area. Native and long-living species such as Peepal, Banyan, Gular, Neem, Arjun and Jamun will be planted.

The Chief Minister said that Delhi is moving forward with a renewed environmental commitment. The Government’s objective is not merely to plant trees but to revive the Capital’s natural ecosystem and build a cleaner, greener and healthier city for future generations. She added that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign symbolises our collective responsibility towards nature, motherhood and the generations to come.

Speaking on the occasion, Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said:

“Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, the launch of the Green Drive Portal marks a significant and forward-looking initiative to transform environmental conservation into a true people’s movement. Our objective is not only to plant 7 million saplings but also to make every citizen of Delhi an active partner in building a greener and cleaner Capital.

The Green Drive Portal has categorised plantation sites across all 70 Assembly constituencies of Delhi. Through the portal, citizens can book plantation slots at their convenience, request free saplings through the ‘Vriksh Rath’ service, locate their nearest government nursery, and register as ‘Environment Guardians’ to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives. Our endeavour is to ensure that every Delhiite plants at least one tree under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and nurtures it, thereby transforming this initiative into a sustained movement driven by public participation.

The Green Drive Portal will connect volunteers, schools, colleges, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), industrial establishments and civil society organisations with year-round environmental conservation initiatives. The plantation campaign will not remain confined to designated plantation sites alone but will also encourage greening of homes, educational institutions, other establishments and rooftop gardens to maximise green cover wherever space is available.

Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to control pollution. Through initiatives such as the new EV Policy, development of modern sewage treatment infrastructure for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River, and reuse of treated wastewater, the Government remains committed to building a cleaner, greener and healthier Delhi, ensuring a better and more sustainable environment for future generations.”
