Police track accused through CCTV footage after incident in Ranjit Nagar

A disturbing case of assault has surfaced from Ranjit Nagar, where a 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 70-year-old woman inside her home.

According to Delhi Police, the accused — identified as Mukesh Singh — was taken into custody after an investigation linked him to the incident. He is said to have been working as a waiter with catering services.

Officials said the elderly woman, who lives alone, had encountered the accused a few days before the incident when he approached her residence asking for water. She had assisted him at the time.

Police stated that on Saturday, the man allegedly returned and forced his way into the house. He then physically assaulted the woman and committed sexual violence before fleeing.

Following a distress call, a police team reached the spot and shifted the victim to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for examination. Initial findings pointed to physical assault, after which a case was registered.

Subsequently, after the victim and her family provided additional details, further medical evaluation confirmed sexual assault. Based on this, more serious charges were added under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigators formed a special team and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The footage reportedly captured the suspect entering and leaving the victim’s residence around the time of the incident.

Using surveillance inputs and technical tracking, police located and arrested the accused from the Pandav Nagar area.

The accused was produced before a court and has been sent to judicial custody. During questioning, he allegedly admitted that he had earlier observed that the woman lived alone, which he used to plan the crime.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and have assured strict action.
