Delta Airlines Plane Overturns in Crash Landing at Toronto Airport

Delta Connection flight operated by Endeavor Air experienced a harrowing incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport. According to Delta Airlines, the Bombardier CRJ-900 carried 76 passengers and four crew members when it encountered difficulties during landing. Eyewitnesses and airport officials confirm that the aircraft flipped over on the runway, resulting in injuries to multiple occupants.

When the plane touched down, it reportedly encountered an unexpected impact on the runway. In the moments that followed, the aircraft skidded sideways before coming to rest inverted, with parts of the wing and the vertical fin visibly damaged. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and all 80 people on board were successfully evacuated despite the chaotic situation. Initial reports indicated that 18 individuals sustained injuries, including a young child, while three of those injured—one child, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s—were reported to be in critical condition, according to Peel Regional Paramedic Services.

Authorities on site quickly assessed the situation. Fire crews, paramedics, and police coordinated a swift response, deploying multiple fire engines, ambulances, and air ambulance services to provide urgent care to those affected. Despite the dramatic scene, no fatalities have been reported, and many passengers have already been reunited with their families. Toronto Pearson’s operations were temporarily halted as investigators secured the scene and began preliminary examinations of the wreckage.

Weather conditions at the time of landing appeared to be a contributing factor. While the runway was described as dry, recent snowfall and gusty winds—reported to have reached speeds over 50 km/h—may have played a role in destabilizing the aircraft during its final approach. Witnesses noted that the runway’s condition seemed “a bit unusual,” with snow still visible in some areas despite recent clearing efforts.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, and representatives from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board are also assisting with the inquiry. Investigators will scrutinize the flight data recorders, interview crew members, and analyze the performance of the aircraft systems to determine the precise cause of the accident.

Delta Airlines and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority have both expressed their commitment to supporting all those affected by the incident. In a statement, Delta emphasized that passenger safety remains their top priority, while airport officials praised the prompt response of first responders in mitigating what could have been a much worse outcome.
