Two-week media internship in Dimapur trains young people in digital storytelling, responsible communication and content creation to counter misinformation and promote local narratives.

Kolkata, October 23: The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, in collaboration with the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, has conducted a two-week Media Internship Programme 2026 in Dimapur, Nagaland, to equip young people with practical skills in audio-visual content production, digital storytelling and responsible communication.

The initiative aims to expand opportunities for young people in India’s growing creative economy while strengthening their ability to produce credible digital content, document local development and counter misinformation.

Speaking about the programme, SRFTI Vice-Chancellor Santosh Ajmera said the creative economy offers significant opportunities for youth, with audio-visual storytelling serving as a tool for livelihood generation and nation-building.

He emphasised that training young people to create engaging and credible digital content reflecting local realities and perspectives could strengthen the flow of authentic information, promote media literacy and bring local development stories to wider audiences.

Ajmera said SRFTI was committed to extending its expertise in film, television and media education beyond traditional classrooms. He encouraged educational institutions, government organisations and other stakeholders to introduce similar skill-development initiatives for young people.

He also expressed the institute’s willingness to serve as a technical partner by sharing its expertise in audio-visual production, digital storytelling and media training to support such programmes and strengthen India’s creative ecosystem.

Students from three institutions participate

Students of Mass Communication and Journalism from St. Joseph University, Patkai Christian College and Tetso College participated in the programme.

The internship focused on developing the skills needed to create credible, context-sensitive and engaging audio-visual content. It also sought to strengthen participants’ ability to document local experiences, verify information and communicate responsibly.

The initiative aims to encourage young people to document community experiences, local development initiatives and success stories, ensuring that authentic narratives from the region reach wider audiences.

Focus on responsible digital storytelling

The collaboration highlights the role of partnerships between specialised educational institutions and other organisations in expanding access to practical media training.

By combining technical expertise with local participation, the programme seeks to nurture a new generation of media practitioners equipped with creative skills and a strong sense of responsibility.

The initiative also aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat by encouraging youth participation in the creative economy and promoting credible storytelling about India’s diverse communities and development journey.
