Sonam Wangchuk Fast came to an end on Friday after the social activist concluded his 26-day hunger strike following assurances from the Central Government on key demands related to the NEET paper leak controversy, compensation for affected families and examination reforms.
Speaking after ending the fast, Wangchuk described the decision as “the end of hunger and the beginning of accountability,” indicating that the movement would now focus on ensuring the government’s commitments are fulfilled. He said the protest had always been aimed at securing justice for students and restoring confidence in India’s examination system.
According to Wangchuk, the Centre has assured that families of students who reportedly died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET examination due to the paper leak will receive appropriate financial assistance. The government also conveyed that students participating in peaceful demonstrations would not face punitive legal action.
Although the hunger strike has ended, Wangchuk made it clear that the broader campaign seeking transparency in public examinations, accountability for those responsible for the paper leak, and long-term reforms in the examination process will continue until concrete steps are implemented.
