19-Year-Old Legal Dispute Resolved Through Mediation at Rewari ADR Centre

Samadhan Samaroh Rewari helped resolve a 19-year-old legal dispute through mediation, highlighting the effectiveness of ADR and Lok Adalats.

Rewari, June 8: A legal dispute that remained unresolved for nearly two decades has finally been settled through mediation at the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre in Rewari, showcasing the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in delivering timely justice.

The case, which had been under litigation for 19 years and had reached the Supreme Court, was amicably resolved under the nationwide “Samadhan Samaroh” initiative. Following a series of mediation sessions, both parties agreed to a mutually acceptable settlement, bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle.

Dr. Renu Solkhe, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Rewari, and Chief Judicial Magistrate, said the “Samadhan Samaroh” campaign was launched to encourage the settlement of long-pending cases through dialogue, mediation and mutual understanding. The initiative aims to reduce litigation, ease the burden on courts and provide faster access to justice.

She said the successful resolution of the case demonstrates the growing acceptance and effectiveness of mediation as an alternative to lengthy court proceedings. Mediator Anuradha played a crucial role in facilitating discussions between the parties and helping them reach a consensus.

Dr. Solkhe emphasized that mediation and Lok Adalats offer litigants a quicker, cost-effective and less adversarial approach to dispute resolution. Such mechanisms not only save time and resources but also help preserve relationships and promote social harmony.

She also encouraged citizens to take advantage of alternative dispute resolution platforms, noting that awards passed by Lok Adalats are final and legally binding. Court fees deposited in cases settled through Lok Adalats are refunded in accordance with existing rules.

The settlement is being viewed as a significant success under the Supreme Court’s efforts to promote amicable dispute resolution and strengthen access to justice, while also helping reduce the backlog of pending cases in the judicial system.
