New Delhi, May 12, 2026: Delhi Police carried out its 9th mega drug destruction drive, eliminating around 1700 kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated ₹72 crore, as part of an intensified campaign aimed at achieving a drug free capital by 2027.
The event was led by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu along with the Delhi Police Commissioner and senior officials, marking another major step under the government’s zero tolerance approach towards narcotics trafficking.

During the programme, the Lieutenant Governor also announced the establishment of Delhi’s first dedicated Anti Narcotics Task Force police station, which will focus on strengthening enforcement, intelligence operations, and coordinated action against drug networks across the city.

Officials said the destroyed substances included cannabis, charas, heroin, cocaine, cannabis sativa, and alprazolam tablets, seized from multiple cases handled by the Crime Branch and South District units.

With this latest action, the cumulative quantity of drugs destroyed over recent years has reached approximately 46,500 kilograms, valued at over ₹13,000 crore in the international market, reflecting sustained enforcement efforts under ongoing anti drug campaigns.
Authorities emphasized that the initiative is not only about eliminating seized narcotics but also about dismantling the larger criminal ecosystem that fuels addiction and endangers youth and communities.
Delhi Police reiterated its commitment to strict action against drug traffickers through continuous operations, financial investigations, preventive detention measures, and large scale enforcement drives such as Operation Kavach.
Officials stated that the new Anti Narcotics Task Force is expected to further strengthen the capital’s fight against drug trafficking by enabling faster response, improved coordination, and focused intelligence based policing.
