New Delhi, May 1, 2026: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed celebrated filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker as the Festival Director for the 57th International Film Festival of India, which will be hosted in Goa.
Gowariker is widely known for his significant contribution to Indian cinema and has maintained a long association with the festival over several decades. His involvement reflects his continued engagement with the growth of film culture and international cinematic dialogue.
Expressing gratitude on his appointment, Gowariker said he felt honoured to take on the responsibility of leading one of India’s most prestigious film festivals. He recalled his long journey with IFFI, noting his first participation in 1984 and his continued association up to recent years, including serving as Jury President for international cinema in 2024.
He further stated that carrying forward the legacy of the festival, which has developed since its early years, brings both pride and responsibility. He also expressed his eagerness to work closely with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Goa to strengthen the festival’s global reach.
Established in 1952, the International Film Festival of India is recognised as one of Asia’s oldest and most prominent film festivals. It serves as a major platform for showcasing world cinema while encouraging cultural exchange and artistic collaboration.
Jointly organised by the National Film Development Corporation under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting along with the Entertainment Society of Goa, the festival has evolved into a global meeting point for filmmakers, artists and industry professionals.
The 57th edition of IFFI, scheduled for November 2026 in Goa, is expected to bring together international films, curated screenings, masterclasses, tributes and the WAVES Film Bazaar, offering a space for creative partnerships and industry networking across the global film community.
