CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exams From May 15; 1,752 Chandigarh Govt Students Enrolled

New two-attempt system lets students improve scores as Maths paper opens schedule

Chandigarh- A total of 1,752 students from government schools in Chandigarh have registered for the second phase of the Class 10 board examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), set to commence on May 15.

This second round of board exams marks a key reform introduced in the current academic session, allowing students to appear twice and retain their best score. The initiative is aimed at reducing academic pressure while offering a chance to improve performance.

The examination cycle will begin with the Mathematics paper, a subject that has drawn particular attention this year after students and teachers raised concerns about the difficulty level of the Basic variant during the main March exams. Under CBSE guidelines, students can switch between Mathematics Standard and Basic in this attempt, providing added flexibility.

The schedule continues with English on May 16, Science on May 18, and language papers such as Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu on May 19. The exams will conclude on May 21 with Social Science.

The second board is not limited to students who failed in the initial attempt. Those who have already passed can also reappear in up to three subjects—including Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and languages—to improve their marks. However, students categorized under Essential Repeat (ER) are not eligible for this round.

CBSE has clarified that students who register but choose not to appear will have their original results from the main examination considered final. The syllabus for this phase remains unchanged from the first board exams.

The registrations come amid improved academic performance by Chandigarh government schools. The overall pass percentage in the 2025–26 academic session rose to 88.25%, a notable increase from 81.18% recorded in the previous year.
