Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Lead Indian Delegation at SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek

New Delhi, April 27, 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will head the Indian delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ Meeting scheduled in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on April 28, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Defence, representatives from member countries will discuss key regional security issues, defence cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, and measures to strengthen stability in the region. The meeting is taking place amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which are expected to influence discussions on global peace and security.

India is expected to highlight its firm stand on combating terrorism and extremism while reiterating its commitment to global peace and regional stability. The Indian delegation will also underline the importance of deeper defence collaboration among SCO member states.

On the sidelines of the summit, Rajnath Singh is likely to hold bilateral meetings with defence ministers from several participating countries to further strengthen defence and strategic partnerships.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a major regional grouping established in 2001 in Shanghai, China. It includes India, Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. India became a full member in 2017 and later held the rotating chairmanship in 2023.

The meeting is being viewed as significant given the current global security environment and increasing emphasis on counter-terrorism coordination among member nations.
