US Announces $10 Million Reward for Iran Linked Iraqi Militia Leader

Washington intensifies crackdown on Tehran backed armed groups operating in Iraq

Washington, April 24, 2026: The United States has announced a reward of up to 10 million dollars for information leading to the arrest or identification of Hashim Finyan Rahim al Saraji, the leader of an Iran aligned armed group operating in Iraq.

Al Saraji, also known as Abu Alaa al Walai, heads Kataib Sayyid al Shuhada, a militia group that Washington has designated as a terrorist organisation. The move comes under the State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme aimed at targeting individuals involved in attacks against US interests.

US officials have accused the group of carrying out attacks on American military personnel, diplomatic facilities, and Iraqi civilians, as well as operating with support from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In addition to the monetary reward, the US has also indicated that individuals providing credible information may be eligible for relocation assistance, highlighting the priority placed on dismantling Iran backed militia networks in the region.

The announcement is part of broader efforts by Washington to counter the influence of Tehran aligned armed groups and strengthen security in Iraq and the wider Middle East.
