Horror in France: 9-Year-Old Found Locked in Van for Months

Child found in critical condition as authorities probe shocking confinement case

Paris: Authorities in Hagenbach have rescued a nine-year-old boy who had allegedly been kept inside a vehicle for an extended period, in a case that has stunned the country.

Police intervened after a local resident reported hearing unusual sounds coming from a parked van. Upon forcing entry, officers discovered the child in extremely poor conditions, lying curled up amid waste and debris.

Officials said the boy appeared severely undernourished and was unable to stand or walk properly due to prolonged confinement.

The child’s father has been taken into custody and is facing serious charges, including abduction-related offences. According to investigators, he claimed his actions were intended to shield the child from being placed in a psychiatric facility.

However, authorities noted there was no prior medical evidence suggesting the child required such treatment.

The boy reportedly told officials he had not been able to bathe for months and had been living in isolation. He also indicated strained relations with his father’s partner, though investigations are ongoing to verify all claims.

The father’s partner has denied knowledge of the situation but is facing legal scrutiny for failing to report a child in danger. Other children connected to the family have been placed under protective care.

Investigators are also examining whether anyone else was aware of the child’s situation, as acquaintances had reportedly believed he had moved away or was receiving medical care elsewhere.

Residents in the area expressed disbelief at the incident, saying they had no indication of what was happening. Authorities have withheld identities as the investigation continues.
