New Delhi : On 28.03.26, the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Satish Golchha, IPS flagged off 76 newly inducted cranes in the Traffic Unit at Police Head Quarters, Jai Singh Road, New Delhi. Highlighting the growing challenge of unauthorised roadside parking and vehicle breakdowns leading to congestion, the enhanced infrastructure will enable quicker removal of illegally parked and stranded vehicles, thereby ensuring smoother traffic flow, reducing bottlenecks and improving overall road discipline across the city.
A soft launch of an additional 125 OSVD (Over-Speeding Violation Detection) Cameras was also done by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, marking a significant step towards strengthening traffic enforcement and enhancing road safety across the National Capital. Special CP/Traffic, Sh. Neeraj Thakur, IPS and other senior officers of the traffic unit were also present at the launch.
These additional 125 OSVD cameras have been installed, extending coverage to 76 additional road stretches and further strengthening the existing network of 125 cameras across 66 road stretches. This expanded system will facilitate more objective, comprehensive and effective detection of violations such as over-speeding, lane indiscipline, and driving against the flow of traffic, thereby promoting greater compliance and enhancing road safety across the city. The system will cover all classes of vehicles, including two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

The initiative is in sync with the Delhi Police’s commitment to ensuring SMART policing. The aim is to enhance technological intervention and enable faceless enforcement to address traffic violations, which remain a major contributor to road accidents and fatalities. With the expansion of the camera-based enforcement network, authorities will be better equipped to monitor violations in real time across critical locations and accident-prone areas throughout the city.
The upgraded system incorporates advanced features, including high-resolution imaging, Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and seamless integration with the e-challan system. These capabilities ensure accurate identification of offending vehicles and the timely issuance of challans, thereby improving the overall efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of enforcement mechanisms.

The launch was followed by Sampark Sabha by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with the officers and all ranks of the Delhi Traffic Police at the Adarsh Auditorium, Police Headquarters in the presence of Sh. Neeraj Thakur, IPS, Spl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic; Sh. Sanjay Tyagi, IPS, Jt. Commissioner of Police/Traffic; Ms. Vijayanta Goyal Arya, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic, DCsP & ACsP/Traffic and Traffic Inspectors. A total of 450 personnel from the unit attended the Sampark Sabha. In his interaction with the staff, Commissioner of Police, Delhi stated that Traffic police is amongst the most visible units of Delhi police. Therefore, our work must be effective and transparent so that public confidence is reposed.
He also emphasised that road safety should continue to be a priority for us. We need to review accident hotspots to find out issues related to road engineering and commuter behaviour. “The intent of prosecution should be to reinforce discipline”, he stated.
