New Delhi : Member of Parliament from Aam Aadmi Party Raghav Chadha raised a very important issue in the upper house of Parliament. Raghav is known for raising the issues in parliament that have a direct impact on the common man of the country. This time he has raised the issue of adulteration in the edible products. With Vice president C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chadha underlined that it is a well- known fact the that while we talk about the welfare of the common man of the country, we are unable to stop the adultery in the food products which, a handful of people, that are hungry for money irrespective of the method used to earn the same. These people have been adding urea to increase the production of milk, which every parent feed their children understanding that they are feeding this milk to their children that would help grow him healthy, without knowing that they are actually feeding poison to their children.
Chadha categorically raised the point that we are the country where the sale of milk is many times higher than the total milk produced in the country. It is very obvious that the shortfall of production is met by adulteration of milk with harmful chemicals and urea. He said that not only milk but editable oils, packaged food, spices, beverages etc. are sold in the market while the fake labels certifying that these products are good for health providing health to the human body.
He said that while in vegetables there is oxytocin, paneer known for a good source for protein is full of starch and caustic soda, ice-cream is filled of detergent powder, Edible oils are full of machine oil, fruit juices are flavored with spices include brick and wood powder, synthetic colour in tea, chicken and cold drinks are added with anabolic steroids, fruit juices are empowered with artificial colour dangerous synthetic flavour. Even the honey is incorporated with yellow die and sugar syrup. The situation is that none of the edible products are available with dangerous chemicals and none of the products are actually healthy enough to be consumed by the humans. 71% samples of samples of milk contain urea while 64% were found with bicarbonates. The vegetables that we treat as fresh and healthy are grown with heavy doses of oxytocin which is known to cause headache, nausea, heart failure, infertility, cancer and other deadly diseases. He shared the data from 2014-15 to 2025 25% were found adulterated. It is a matter of concern, said Chadha, that how many of person that have gone ill by eating these adulterated products were admitted to hospital, how many got treatment and there is no information on the people who died affected by eating these adulterated food items. He said that the products of two major manufacturers of spices in India are banned in Europe and US only because of containing harmful chemicals that can lead to cancer. While other countries are banning these products, people in our country are forced to consume these spices ignorant of what harmful contents are included in these products.
He suggested that the regulator to certify these editable products should be empowered with more staff force, most efficient testing equipment and penalties for default that should be high enough that pinches the defaulters. Public recall system should be introduced so that the erring manufacturers of these adulterated products face a public shame by asking them to recall their products from market. He very strongly raised the need for implementing a total ban on misleading advertisement that boast of healthy and energy.
It is worth mentioning here that while Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was instrumental in raising the high premiums of mediclaim, Raghav Chadha, though from a different political ideology, raised issue on the same issue of high mediclaim premium that deprives a large section of society from health cover, a large number of which is senior citizens.
With raising the issue of adultery in edible products, Chadha has gained a respect for himself in the eyes of common man, being the torch bearer for public welfare.
