New Delhi, January 29, 2026 : Amid intense snowfall and freezing temperatures across the Kashmir Valley, the General Manager of Northern Railway, Ashok Kumar Verma, undertook a comprehensive review of the Srinagar–Katra rail corridor to assess operational preparedness and safety arrangements.
The visit was aimed at evaluating railway functioning under extreme weather conditions and ensuring uninterrupted services in the strategically important section. During the tour, Verma visited prominent stations along the route, including Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag and Qazigund, where he examined passenger facilities and winter preparedness measures to safeguard commuters during the harsh season.
Special emphasis was laid on the condition of critical railway infrastructure. The General Manager closely assessed the progress and quality of work at key tunnels and bridges, while also examining vital track components such as switches and crossings to confirm their reliability in sub-zero temperatures.

Interacting with trackmen and field staff, Verma acknowledged their efforts in maintaining rail safety despite extreme cold. He engaged directly with on-ground personnel to understand operational difficulties faced during winter maintenance and assured them of full administrative support.
Highlighting the importance of staff welfare, Verma directed railway अधिकारियों to immediately ensure adequate supply of winter clothing, safety tools and specialised equipment for personnel working in snow-bound areas. He reiterated that employee safety remains a top priority during adverse climatic conditions.

Before concluding the inspection, the General Manager also reviewed the status of ongoing railway development works in the region. He urged officials to maintain construction momentum while adhering to safety norms, ensuring that weather challenges do not delay critical infrastructure projects.
