UK PM Keir Starmer Departs for India to Strengthen Economic and Strategic Ties

First Official Visit to India Focuses on Trade, Investment, CETA, and Global Fintech Engagement

London, October 7, 2025 – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer departed from London’s Heathrow Airport today, joining his business delegation for a group photo before embarking on his first official visit to India. The two-day trip, scheduled from October 8–9, will focus on deepening economic and strategic ties between the two nations.

During the visit, Prime Minister Starmer will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai to review the progress of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership under “Vision 2035,” a ten-year roadmap covering trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people relations.

A major highlight of the visit will be discussions around the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a recently signed bilateral free trade pact. Both leaders will engage with industry leaders and businesses to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen trade relations. Bilateral trade between India and the UK has already reached USD 56 billion, with an ambitious target to double by 2030.

The Prime Ministers will also participate in the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, delivering keynote addresses and interacting with policymakers, innovators, and industry experts. The visit builds on the momentum from PM Modi’s UK visit in July 2025 and seeks to reaffirm the shared vision of a forward-looking India-UK partnership.

This first official trip underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance economic collaboration, promote technological and industrial cooperation, and address regional and global issues of mutual importance.
