VK Singh Appointed as New Governor of Mizoram

Aizawl : Former Army chief VK Singh has been sworn in as the 25th Governor of Mizoram, succeeding Hari Babu Kambhampati. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan, Aizawl, on January 16, with Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi administering the oath. This marks a new chapter in Singh’s career as he transitions from a distinguished military career to his first gubernatorial role.

The event was attended by a host of political figures, including Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, and former chief ministers Lal Thanhawla and Zoramthanga, alongside other dignitaries and senior officials. Singh’s appointment, made by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24, signifies a fresh administrative era for Mizoram, with the former Army chief taking over the reins in a crucial phase for the state.

Singh’s appointment to this prestigious position comes at a time when Mizoram is poised for continued growth and development. As the 25th Governor since the state attained its status in 1987, he replaces Kambhampati, who has been reassigned to Odisha. The transition reflects the ongoing changes in the country’s political landscape, with Singh’s extensive experience in governance and administration set to guide the state through a new phase of progress.

Before assuming the role of governor, Singh served as the 24th Chief of Army Staff, where he was instrumental in shaping India’s military strategy. His distinguished military service has earned him high regard both domestically and internationally. After retiring from the Army, Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as a Lok Sabha member from Ghaziabad. Over the years, he has held several significant ministerial positions, contributing to key initiatives during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, particularly in areas of defense and external affairs.

In his new role, Singh is expected to leverage his leadership experience to work closely with the state government to further Mizoram’s development. His tenure as governor is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the state’s administrative and political landscape, building on the strong foundations laid by his predecessors. Singh’s appointment also reflects the growing integration of individuals with diverse backgrounds into the governance system, highlighting the importance of experienced leadership in managing the country’s diverse regions.
