Delhi Minister Advocates for MCD Funding from Centre
Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj urged that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi
New Delhi , 1 August , 2024 : Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Thursday stated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), like other urban local bodies, should receive grants from the Centre. Bharadwaj plans to write to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking Rs 5,200 crore for the civic body.
Addressing a press conference, the urban development minister emphasized the need for these funds to develop essential infrastructure such as drains and roads. He noted that urban local bodies in states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh currently receive such grants from the Centre.
“Delhi is the national capital. Like other urban local bodies, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi should also get grants from the Centre. The MCD should ideally get a grant of over Rs 5,200 crore from the Centre. I will write to the Union finance minister on this,” he stated.Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj urged that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) should receive grants from the central government to develop infrastructure. He plans to request Rs 5,200 crore from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, highlighting that other city’s urban local bodies already get such aid.
