New Delhi, April 17 – India on Wednesday firmly rejected remarks made by Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir on Kashmir, asserting that Pakistan’s only association with the region is to vacate the areas it has unlawfully occupied.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, responding to media queries during a briefing, said:
“How can something foreign be referred to as a jugular vein? Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory of India. Pakistan’s only connection with it is to withdraw from the illegally occupied parts.”
His response follows General Munir’s statement in which he referred to Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein”.
Addressing members of the Pakistani diaspora at an event, General Munir described them as “ambassadors” of the nation and urged them to stay connected with their heritage.
“You must narrate Pakistan’s story to your children. Our ancestors believed we were distinct from Hindus in every way — in religion, culture, customs, values, and aspirations. This formed the foundation of the two-nation theory,” Munir stated.
Speaking further on Kashmir, he added, “Our position is clear — Kashmir was, is, and will remain our jugular vein. We stand firmly with our Kashmiri brothers in their brave resistance.”
