Prime Minister Ramgoolam described it as a great privilege for Mauritius to host such a distinguished global leader, especially given PM Modi’s demanding schedule. He emphasized the deep-rooted and enduring relationship between India and Mauritius, expressing gratitude that Prime Minister Modi had accepted the invitation to be their special guest.
The upcoming visit underscores the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations, built on shared cultural heritage, historical connections, and strategic cooperation. This development comes shortly after Prime Minister Modi’s recent visits to France and the United States, further highlighting India’s active role on the global stage.
Mauritius celebrates its National Day annually on March 12, commemorating its independence from British colonial rule in 1968. The event holds immense national significance, symbolizing the country’s journey toward sovereignty and progress. Traditionally, Mauritius invites a prominent foreign leader as the Chief Guest, reflecting its diplomatic relations and global outreach.
Last year, Indian President Droupadi Murmu attended Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, reinforcing the close ties between the two countries. Her presence marked a continuation of high-level exchanges that have strengthened cooperation in areas such as trade, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
India and Mauritius have historically shared a special bond, with a large population of Indian origin residing in the island nation.
