India & Kenya Strengthen Bilateral Ties: PM Modi Holds Talks with Kenyan President Ruto

New Delhi, 05 Dec 23– Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto during his visit to New Delhi on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for steady progress in mutual trade and investment between the two nations. The leaders exchanged five Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) covering various sectors such as sports, IT, and education.

Addressing a joint press conference, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the positive trajectory of economic cooperation between India and Kenya, expressing satisfaction that Kenya has joined the Global Biofuels Alliance and the International Solar Alliance. He also commended Kenya’s decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance, contributing to global efforts for big cat conservation.

Both leaders acknowledged terrorism as a significant challenge to humanity and pledged to enhance mutual cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. Prime Minister Modi underscored Africa’s prominence in India’s foreign policy, emphasizing a decade-long effort to strengthen cooperation with the continent.

President Ruto, in his statement, praised the extensive conversations and engagements on issues of mutual significance, congratulating Prime Minister Modi for successfully hosting the G20 Summit and advocating for the African Union’s inclusion in the G20.

President Ruto, who arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit, expressed the importance of consolidating the relationship between Kenya and India. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with historical ties dating back thousands of years.

During his visit, President Ruto participated in a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, laid a wreath at Rajghat in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, and engaged in discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar. Dr. Jaishankar, in a social media post, appreciated President Ruto’s perspectives on Global South concerns and valued his insights for further strengthening bilateral ties between India and Kenya.
